...with flying kitties and such, I can post something slightly more relevant.
So, earlier in the week...Mrs. Frennzy tells me she has a surprise for me, and that I need to commit to getting up early on Saturday morning. (7:00 a.m.)
No worries, sez I, and go out on Friday night anyway...first to an after work cocktail get together, then to a happy hour with some new folks Mrs. Frennzy wanted to introduce me to, and finally to the monthly poker game, where I was soundly trounced.
Sometime much later, Mrs. Frennzy picks me up and takes me home.
6:55 a.m. Saturday morning, and I am awoken by the sound of Mrs. Frennzy yelling "TIME TO GET UP! COME ON! YOU SAID YOU WOULD!"
So I did....and she still wouldn't tell me where we were going.
20 minutes of driving later, and we pull into a big field just NE of Boulder and see, to my surprise, and bunch of those Hot Air Balloon geeks, standing around.
Whee! We're going up in a hot air balloon!
Well, 45 minutes and much standing around waiting for 'calm air' later, we finally get into the gondola, get some basic safety tips (if you fall out, try not to land on anything important), and up we go.
Apparently, we were one of only two balloons to get up that day, because as soon as we lifted off, the wind kicked back up, and it started to rain. We missed all that...
So, yeah...it was really cool...and as soon as I find the camera, I'll post some pics. Overall, very cool...and actually just a *little* boring once you have been up in the air for half an hour or so. We had a somewhat exciting landing (had to scrape over some trees, then prepare for a 'high speed' landing, which in reality was pretty anticlimactic. The most exciting thing about it was that we landed in the Boulder County 'open space' area, which was fenced in, so the chase crew and our pilot had some real work to do to get the balloon packed up, cut a fence, drive through the fence, get balloon, and get all of us back to our cars before "The Man" showed up and started handing out fines.
Afterwards, we both came home and napped, and then decided to abandon our plans to go out to a party. We just lazed around the rest of the day, with the phones turned off.
On a somewhat interesting sidebar, I got a message from Frennzymom, that she had left while I was up in the air, and she asked if I had "fallen off the face of Colorado". Well, Mom, there's your answer. Yes, I had.
I'll try and post pics today...hopefully some of them came out well.
